With the growing emphasis on ‘output-focused’ requirements specification, procurement and service delivery, the definition of high-level outcomes and the tracking of expected benefits has become an important component in demonstrating VFM in public sector projects. As independent client side specialists, we are able to assist in the identification and description of benefits (in the form of requirements specifications, procurement documents, service level agreements, commercial documentation).
We also work with clients to define the Benefits Journey which map the path from the systems or processes being implemented by the client through a series of interim outcomes to the delivery of organisations’ strategic goals. In this way, clients can track the end-to-end delivery of measureable improvements, and the impact of these on the goals of the project or programme.
We are often able to bring a strategic, programme-level approach to prioritising benefits delivery across several projects with often competing demands, by focusing on top-level strategic benefits, and evaluating the extent to which outcomes of individual projects contribute to these overall business goals.
