Methods Consulting has worked for the Ministry of Defence since 1992, initially working extensively with the Army and Navy, and latterly specialising in managing and supporting non-operational IS programmes for all three services.  More recently we have worked on the supporting functions for major infrastructure and equipment programmes, for all three services.  We have been involved in defence supply chain and logistics programmes for 15 years.

The defence community has recently been engulfed in major change programmes aimed at delivering cost effective and timely capability to the front line in times of rapidly changing threats to our security, as well as tight financial constraints. The Defence Industrial Strategy has pulled together these change programmes and is redefining the acquisition processes and introducing true ‘Through Life Capability Management’. Indications of such changes are the merger of the DLO and DPA to form DE&S which has been widely supported by industry and the defence community. 

There is a large, ongoing workload to be carried out to refine the organisation, co-locate staff and introduce new ways of working. Methods Consulting is combining its expertise and knowledge gained with all aspects of major change programmes across the public sector with a deep understanding of Defence acquisition to assist MOD in the cost-effective implementation of best practice to ensure that the front line is supported to the highest standard.

We have continuously supplied consultancy support to the MoD and armed services for over fifteen years. This has included successful work for a wide range of clients including – Central Staffs, Defence Equipment & Support and its predecessors – MoD(PE), DLO and DPA, Medical Supplies Agency, Director General Information Systems (DGICS/DCSA), Defence Estates, Land Command, Air Command and the Second Sea Lord (2SL).

We are currently ranked as the 12 largest consultancy in the UK defence sector.  Our Defence practice is led by John Sabin (john.sabin@methods.co.uk), who has over 30 years' experience both as a serving officer and more recently in consulting to the MoD.

Our services can be accessed through a variety of commercial routes including the MoD DCSA Catalogue (including Total Solutions), CIPHeR and Catalist as well as a number of local frameworks and contracts.
