Directors' biographies

Methods Consulting is wholly owned by the Chairman and 3 working Directors.

Tony Webb, Chairman

Tony founded Methods Consulting in 1988 and is responsible for business development with an emphasis on providing project management and consultancy support to regulatory compliance, business change and investment product launch projects for financial services companies and other private sector clients. 

He graduated in geology and worked in exploration around the world - entering computing via statistical analysis of survey results. He then joined LBMS and worked with their clients around Europe and USA before heading Sales & Marketing, during which time the company’s approaches for systems engineering / project management and supporting software tools were selected to be standard for the UK government and become the most widely used methods in the UK.

Mark Johnston, Managing Director

Mark joined Methods Consulting in March 2003 as a Director. His responsibilities included: building a services business stream, focusing upon the healthcare market and the implementation of a quality management system to enhance Methods Consulting’s ability to continue to grow.

Having secured a £6m contract to provide the National NHS e-recruitment service, Mark was made Managing Director in August 2003, acting jointly with Peter Rowlins until May 2004. Mark retains responsibility for services and healthcare.

With 19 years in Consulting and IT, Mark’s experience includes running a 250 strong software arm of a telecoms company and building public sector and advanced technology businesses within a FTSE 100 consultancy.

Peter Rowlins, Director

Peter has worked with Methods Consulting since 1992 and has been a Director since 1993.

Peter established the Company’s public sector business. He has been responsible for winning and managing the company’s business and IT frameworks including the government’s Services Catalogue (S-Cat) - now Catalist. He has led the account development for major programmes of work for DSS / DWP, Ministry of Defence, HM Customs & Excise, the NHS, and previous work with transport companies including British Airways and Railtrack. Peter has specialised in supporting business change and process improvement projects for large organisations. 

Prior to working for Methods Consulting Peter worked with a specialist systems procurement consultancy, and was an Officer in the Royal Navy. Peter has an MBA specialising in information systems and a BEng.

Mark Thompson, Director

Mark joined Methods Consulting in 1995, having spent 4 years with Andersen Consulting (Accenture) within the systems integration and change management groups. During this period Mark worked on a variety of assignments in utilities, financial services and the public sector.

Upon joining Methods Consulting, Mark performed various short term assignments, and managed several key accounts. Latterly Mark has focused on supporting Methods Consulting's business managers in the development and marketing of propositions, and in the building of a consistent and dynamic track record of work across the Company’s core competencies and markets. In particular, Mark ensures Methods Consulting’s continuing inclusion within the frameworks and catalogues that underpin much of the Company’s market strength.

Mark has a PhD in information systems and knowledge management from Cambridge University, and is a part time faculty member at Judge Business School, Cambridge University, where he teaches information systems on the MBA programme.

Mark was recently appointed senior IT policy advisor for the UK Conservative Party.
