Great Ormond Street Hospital needed support in deciding how to manage the future capture and use of clinical and operational data, following notification that its current patient information system would expire in five years.

Solution

Methods held workshops to facilitate knowledge sharing and establish high-level consensus among key staff. We established that there was need for an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system and to modernise the technologies currently in use.

Result

Methods identified and promoted a clear understanding of the options available for the Trust. Both managers and clinicians were engaged in the decision making process. We were also involved in reviewing a number of EPR providers. A wide audience of clinical and non-clinical staff attended the workshops, which were essential in scoping the next steps for developing the system.
