Customer
NHS Scotland’s national eHealth programme aimed to introduce greater efficiency through the co-ordination of desktop and related IT services provision. This was primarily because individual Health Boards had previously developed their own systems in isolation to meet specific local needs.
Solution
Methods collated information from representatives of 22 Health Boards and proposed potential options for system improvements, which had the flexibility to allow each organisation to move forward with its own implementation plan for the strategy. These options were evaluated against key criteria to produce a desktop strategy and proposed routemap. In addition, Methods was asked to evaluate the potential for the use of ‘open standards’ solutions and develop a Total Cost of Ownership model for current desktops and related systems.
Result
The national strategy that we put in place for the client involved a comprehesive review of solutions from a wide range of technology suppliers. We produced a co-ordinated strategy for short, medium and long term desktop developments and procurements, getting the buy-in from IT users for proposed changes along the way.
Statement
We helped put in place a national IT strategy, which involved a complex process of reviewing solutions from a wide range of technology suppliers.
