Tower Hamlets, a local authority with one of the UK’s highest unemployment rates, is committed to increasing the provision of adult learning opportunities. Although the borough had developed a website to promote local adult learning, it was difficult for users to find the courses they wanted – a problem made worse by inadequate site maintenance.

Solution

Methods developed a web-based application which gave up to date course information from nearly 400 local training providers. The application fed information from the course providers through a real time feed, allowing automatic updates. We engaged a wide range of stakeholders to refine and improve the usability of the application.

Result

Through our application, we helped the client to promote lifelong learning within the borough and increase awareness of adult learning courses among local residents. We also helped the council to engage better with over 400 local training providers.
